Energy and Commerce Finally Moving Forward

July 29, 2009

National health care reform, while recently has slowed down, picks up pace today.  The House Energy and Commerce Committee will reconvene its mark-up on HR 3200 after Blue Dog Democrats and House leaders have come to an agreement earlier today.  The deal officially pushes back a full floor vote until September, while Blue Dogs in E & C will allow committee mark-ups to continue.  However, policy agreements between Chairman Waxman and the Blue Dog coalition in the committee are still being worked on, as there are still differences about cost-containments, public-option standards, and small-business exemptions that need to be solved in the mark-up.  Committee members will continue to offer amendments this week, and the Chairman still maintains that the bill will be passed out of committee by Friday, the last day before House members return home for recess.
