HELP Committee Begins Health Reform Bill Mark Up

June 16, 2009

As you know, a draft of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committee’s health reform legislation, “Affordable Health Choices Act”, was released last week. The Members of the committee are scheduled to begin marking up the draft this afternoon. Here are some materials to assist you should you choose to weigh in with the committee as they begin the mark-up process.

Community Catalyst has summarized the major provisions in the draft legislation and submitted comments based on four key priorities: consumer voice, affordability, disparities, and insurance reform.

Due to the quick timeline, you are encouraged to send any comments to the HELP committee as soon as possible so they may be considered during the mark-up process. All comments should be emailed to help_comments@help.senate.gov.  You may also want to send your comments to the Iowa Congressional delegation.

    Dear Senators,

It would be nice if you would consider lowering the medicare age to 62.
I have worked all my life and would like to retire this year at age 62.
The high cost of self pay health insurance will not let me do that at this time. I believe this would create a lot of jobs for the unemployed and stimulate the economy.
    Sincerely,
